This month, CAPE hosted a webinar focused on the unique challenges and rewards of teaching APE to both undergraduate and graduate students.
During the first session, Sarah James (Gonzaga University) and Nicholas Short (Georgia Tech) unveiled a new set of teaching materials designed to introduce undergraduate students to the world of APE. James and Short discussed the challenges of APE instruction, particularly for undergraduate students who may lack a baseline understanding of features like health insurance.
The second session featured Kathleen Thelen (MIT) and Paul Pierson (UC Berkeley), who shared their pedagogical recipe for graduate APE seminars. Their discussion touched on important questions like deciding which topics to include (and exclude) from the curriculum, the value of incorporating scholarship outside one's own expertise, and the unique benefits of co-teaching.
We are thrilled to share this resource with the broader CAPE community. You can find additional undergraduate and graduate materials and syllabi from Jacob Hacker, Alex Hertel-Fernandez, Mallory SoRelle, Parrish Bergquist, and others on our dedicated Teaching APE page!
